Liverpool Cycling 1887 – Walter Dutton p17.

Sundry Cycle Rides in June 1887

With the warmer summer days and nights, Walt and sister Amy range far and wide around Liverpool and beyond.  Bold, St Helen’s, Rainhill, &Thatto Heath get a mention.  On one occasion Amy had to be towed home with shoe laces she was so tired.  Must have been strong laces!  Interesting that she appears to be solo riding a James Starley Coventry Lever Tricycle patented in 1876.  This was later manufactured on a large scale.    ‘Bluebell Amy’ suggests Walt and Amy enjoyed teasing each other.  The Bluebell was their local pub on the Warrington Road.
