The Last Ride of 1887
This last ride was possibly via Prescot to Whiston, which is a little NW of Rainhill and where the road runs parallel to the Liverpool-Manchester railway line (see 3rd sketch) and is about IX miles from Liverpool as shown on the milestone. Surely a lively character like Walt must have continued to sketch the fun he had cycling. Are there further examples out there? What is certain is that there are those who continue to find enjoyment and satisfaction riding those machines of a lost age. One is pictured below in Walt’s playground among the quieter Cheshire lanes.
Of Walt’s further life a’wheel we know nothing. But we do know of his sad ending. He remains a family root seeking the current light of day.
